Lagan Construction, LLC was the prime contractor to the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) and the Dept. of the Navy, on the reconstruction and rehabilitation of runways 05-23 and 14-32 at the Southfield. Each runway is 6,000 feet long and 200 feet wide.
Work took place in two distinct phases, each with a six-month duration. During construction Lagan produced and placed over 60,000 tons of hot-mix asphalt (HMA) by installing and operating our ASTEC drummix, portable batch plant at an on-site location designated by NAVFAC. In addition to the HMA works on the runways, Lagan teamed with Asphalt Paving Systems (APS) a local subcontractor to perform 278,000 square yards of cold-in-place recycling, allowing reuse all of the existing runway surface material in correcting cross-section deficiencies. Other local subcontractors performed landscaping, seeding, sodding, pavement markings and remedial works for two large concrete drainage swales. Lagan Construction employed a staff of approximately 35 persons on-site during the execution of the contract and with a total workforce, including subcontractors, in excess of 80 people.
