FK Lowry have successfully completed Piling on one of the most historical sites in Dublin. The Ship Street Commercial/Hotel Project is located on the original site, where the Vikings landed back in 837AD. The site, known as “Dubh Linn” (Black Pool) was also the site of the former St. Michael Le Pole Church and is one of the most significant archaeological areas in Dublin City.
The project to design and install 900mm diameter hard/firm secant bored pile walls to form two, and three-storey basements required deep rock socketed piles. For this reason, FK Lowry mobilised their dual purpose Soilmec SR-95’s and SR-75 Piling Rigs. FK Lowry also invested heavily in specialist Rock Coring Tooling from Germany to cater for the high rock strength of the underlying limestone.
In certain areas, FK Lowry Operations Teams cored up to 10m deep rock sockets to achieve design toe levels for the Secant Bored Pile Retaining Walls.
The Ship Street Project was a real challenge. Not just due to the site constraints but the anticipated rock strengths and the length of the rock sockets required to satisfy wall stability and our design. We invested in new Bauer Tooling that was sourced from Germany and we were extremely pleased with the performance of the equipment.
