Lagan Construction Group awarded Bay Road to Boomhall Greenway Contract

The Mayor of Derry city has welcomed the news that work onthe new Bay Road to Boomhall Greenway is set to begin as part of the City’s Active Travel Programme funded by the Department for Regional Development. Mayor Cllr Kevin Campbell said the investment is welcomed to extend the existing city wide greenway network, the use of which is benefiting all the citizens of the city.

“Derry City Council put forward proposals to create new traffic free greenways to enhance accessibility between schools, businesses, parks and residential areas to make cycling and walking within the city an attractive option for everyone, while promoting healthy living and social wellbeing.To scheme will complement the success of other Greenway projects which have been tremendous in enhancing cycling and walking opportunities for everyone.”

“The delivery of the schemes identified in the City’s Active Travel Programme over the next 3 years will be a massive step towards completing the traffic-free greenway network on both sides of the Foyle. We’ve already seen what a positive effect new routes and the Peace Bridge have had on walking and cycling in the city. Once completed, the Bay Road to Boomhall Greenway will not only increase the number of people getting around by foot and bike but it will also provide opportunities to expand the network in the future.”
