Lagan Construction Group have been awarded a £4 million project by Polimeri Europa UK Ltd, an Italian based company, to carry out construction works at a Scottish elastomer production plant in Grangemouth, Scotland. The Scottish site currently produces synthetic elastomers and lattices, servicing the automotive tyre industry.
Lagan Construction Group will work alongside Jacobs who are carrying out a design and principal contracting role on the contract. Lagan Construction Groups main role is to complete all sub structure works as well as substantial piling works which will be undertaken by one of their group companies, FK Lowry Piling.
Main elements of work will entail the modification and construction of the 4th finishing line. This involves the construction of a new rubber Product Desolventising Plant, Product Drying and Baling Plant and an Abatement Plant. In addition a new Electrical Sub-Station/Equipment Switch room and Control Building will be constructed.
Debottlenecking of the existing plant also forms part of the contract and will involve a new Boiler Package with a boiler feed water system, Refrigeration Package, Wet Solvent Tank and various smaller equipment packages with installation of new vessels, pumps, heat exchangers and dryers across the existing plant.
All enabling works in advance of the new builds will be carried out by Lagan Construction Group. The enabling works will include a new Construction Village, car parking and lay-down areas, new site roads and site fire main diversion.
In addition to these works there is a necessity for future upgrades to the effluent lagoon system.

Works are due to commence at the end of May 2013 with expected completion in November 2014.
