FK Lowry Piling commences work on one of Irelands largest Piling Contracts

03 Dec 2014

FK Lowry Piling, part of the Lagan Construction Group, have recently commenced Piling works for a new Waste-to-Energy Scheme in Dublin, Ireland. The Dublin Waste-to-Energy project is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) between Dublin City Council and Covanta, a world leader in providing sustainable waste and energy solutions, to provide a thermal treatment plant to treat municipal waste from within the greater Dublin Area. Located near Dublin Port, the plant will generate energy from up to 600,000 tonnes of waste per year that would otherwise go to landfill and will generate enough electricity for up to 80,000 homes annually, as well as district heating for up to a further 50,000 homes. The US company Covanta is the world’s largest operator of waste-to-energy facilities.

FK Lowry Piling have secured the contract for the design and installation of the Piled Foundations for the new Facility and mobilised their new Soilmec SR-75 and existing CM-50 Piling Rigs to site in October 2014. FK Lowry Piling are contracted to install approximately 3,500 No. 300mm, 450mm & 600mm diameter CFA Piles.

“The Contract has started extremely well and we are delighted to have already formed an excellent relationship with the Client and their representatives on site. Health & Safety is the primary focus on this scheme and we are fully engaged in working with the Client and other Sub-Contractors on site to deliver the project Safely, to Programme and to Budget.”

The commencement of the project also saw the introduction of FK Lowry Pilings latest plant acquisition with the new Soilmec SR-75 being mobilised to site.

“For a most prestigious Scheme such as Covanta Waste-to-Energy, we were delighted to be able to mobilise our brand new SR-75 CFA Piling Rig here to Dublin. The new Piling Rig offers us greater depth and diameter capability as well as offering the option for undertaking other Piling Techniques.”
